Wicked the musical is actually a very different story from Wicked the book (still a lot of allegory to governments and freedom of expression, but a lot lighter and the entire first act is at school). It was a pretty good musical, but if you get the soundtrack, listen for Schwartz doing Sondheim. Couple of orchestral bits are downright derivative.
