amusement-powered ice cream maker

http://www.boingboing.net/2007/06/08/supereasy_baggie_ice.html

I rather like the esthetics of the third solution, although I
don't eat ice cream much myself. Of course, I can easily imagine
Corwin wanting to make ice cream several times a day if we had one...

...

I've now read the FAQ on the website for the ball-shaped thingy. I
am disappointed to learn that despite how much it looks like a soccer
ball, they recommend that you not actually kick it. Clearly someone
needs to design a rubber exterior that you can wrap around the whole
thing while it's doing its thing.

I wonder how sensitive to ambient temperatures this method is.

"what do teachers make?"

courtesy of [livejournal.com profile] zandperl: what happens (notionally) when someone lays the "those who can, do; those who can't, teach" schtick on an articulate and passionate teacher--or at least this one.

(That is, a few minutes later they require cosmetic surgery to remove the footprint from their ass, and possibly to rehinge their jaw after it's bounced off the floor.)

Update: A transcript is on the teacher's (Taylor Mali's) site here:

although, as [livejournal.com profile] zandperl points out, the presentation adds a lot.

"click-wrap" arbitration clause ruled unconscionable

http://bnablog.bna.com/techlaw/2007/06/arbitration_cla.html

Honestly I don't really care that much about Second Life; I have enough to do in First Life just now, thanks, and plenty more amusements than I have time to spare for them.

What _is_ of interest to me here are the grounds on which the Terms of Service was judged "unconscionable". These all seem pretty reasonable to me (although at some point the whole question of jurisdiction in the context of the Internet is going to get jerked around pretty hard, I suspect), so I'm hoping that this decision will percolate up and maybe do some real good elsewhere.
