So, I bought *what* exactly?

You bought a viewing of a movie, sir.

Except that ...

*sigh*. Except that you must only watch it on our movie screen, and only at scheduled showtimes.

I can't watch it at home? I can't watch it on my ipod? I can't share it with my friends?

This is the Cineplex Odious, sir. We show movies. It's what we do.

I won't claim that all objections to protection of intellectual property rights are well-founded.

But I think there's a useful distinction to be made between "buying a movie ticket does not give you the right to your own replayable copy of the movie" and "buying a replayable copy of this movie does not give you the right to watch it on any device of your choosing".
