which contains the following quote:

'These early 'Sesame Street' episodes are intended for grown-ups, and may not suit the needs of today's preschool child.' So why are they unsuitable for toddlers in 2007? Well, in the parody 'Monsterpiece Theater,' Alistair Cookie — played by Cookie Monster — used to appear with a pipe, which he later gobbled. 'That modeled the wrong behavior,' explained a Sesame Street executive producer, adding that 'we might not be able to create a character like Oscar [the Grouch] now.'"

I think I speak for many of my friends when I say: oh, for [INSERT DEITY HERE]'s sake. Yeah, some real dangerous messages and adult situations in those early episodes.

Oddly enough, it's people who grew up just freakin' fine watching the original show who are now brainwashed imbeciles trying to talk about how inappropriate it is.

There's a small, but growing, piece of my psyche that wants to respond to things like this in totally inappropriate ways. "I'll show you a damn choking hazard..."
