letting go
12 April 2005 19:23When I fetched my mail today, I saw one of those "Have You Seen This Child?" fliers. What particularly struck me about this one is that the disappearance took place in 1987, when the child was 1 year old. Of course, the picture was "age-progressed" to show an 18-year-old. There was also an absolutely terrible picture of the "Last Seen With" woman, who (from age and last name) I would guess to be the mother.
I don't know how one buys such advertising. But it seems to me that after 17 years, maybe it would be healthier to let go. Age progression has its limits: an age-progressed picture of me from when I was 1 would have depicted a tow-headed and probably stocky 18-year-old, and I have a lot of trouble believing that age-progression technology in general is able to do anything but guesswork at more than a couple of years' remove (for children, at least).
*sigh*
