I _can_ take more time than that...but 4 weeks is what Microsoft gives me with full pay; after that it's unpaid leave. (I assume that the "12 weeks" to which you're referring is the amount of time that they have to let me take off (paid or not) such that I am guaranteed that my job will still be waiting for me.)
