unexpected updates
1 April 2006 21:14Apparently the recent reorganization at Microsoft means that the position I'll be filling will be a bit different than the one I was originally recruited for. To my considerable surprise, I'll be heading up a new subdivision of MSN: the Social Network Analysis Research Labs. The exact details haven't yet been conveyed to me--I gather that things are a bit tangled up, and it sounds like not everyone's happy about it--but at least it should look good on my resume if things don't go well.
If things _don't_ go well...I think that my skills and experience could make me an obvious fit to contribute to the new Google Romance project. (Make sure you take the tour and read the FAQ.)
Meanwhile, Blizzard has apparently been hard at work: they've finally created a character race that meshes well with my penchant for suicide attacks. Plus it looks like my techno-geekyness will be satisfied in the upcoming World of Starcraft. Fire when ready!
In unrelated news, Lucasfilm is apparently licensing Star Wars porn, and it sounds like Mike Resnick is poised to take advantage of this. I can't think of anyone better.
If you didn't catch this today (Saturday), there are some other cool articles up on today's edition of /., which finally seems to have realized what its target audience really wants: more exclamation points.
This is a bit more dense than my usual posting, so if this has all been a bit much for you to absorb, you should check out an article I ran across entitled The Cure for Information Overload. As the title suggested to me, it's a bit overblown, but it's worth a quick look.
