(I wouldn't call myself a particularly dedicated role-playing gamer, but I've done a fair bit of it, and generally enjoyed it a lot. Gary Gygax's contribution to RPGs is arguably a fair bit like Tolkein's to 20th century fantasy, or Heinlein's to science fiction: you may not like the stuff that he helped to create (e.g., I have mixed feelings about 1st and 2nd edition D&D) but you have to give him credit for his influence.)

Roll in peace, Gary.

Senator John McCain, now the Republican presidential nominee, has been an outspoken opponent of torture from his own experience as a prisoner of war in Vietnam. In this case, however, he supported the administration’s position, arguing as Mr. Bush did on Saturday that legislation would have limited the C.I.A.’s ability to gather intelligence.

Not so much, any more.

(This isn't really news. But it's a nice, concise, recent example.)
