jrtomA couple of months ago our VCR bit it. We're now looking to replace it, and maybe augment our home system a bit while we're at it.
Requirements:
* Playing VHS tapes. (We still have a fair number of those.)
* Recording video from the TV (to DVD or hard drive)
Bonuses:
* HD output
* HD upconversion from 480i recordings
* Blu-ray playing
* Copying of VHS tapes to DVD or hard drive
* Streaming Netflix or other Internet-delivered video
It's apparently quite difficult to find a plain VCR these days (nor do I insist on doing so; the fewer boxes the better, although I agree that the quality of specialized components is often better).
Any recommendations for either specific products or kinds of technologies to investigate would be appreciated.
