This is an interesting angle I hadn't considered. My biggest problem, I suppose, is not with labeling as a means of pattern recognition but as a means of creating the 'us' vs. 'them' mentality that, while perfectly human, isn't entirely productive.

I'm beginning to think I might be the defect rather than the ideal, in that I have a hard time recognizing 'us' vs. 'them' unless the circumstances are extereme. But that's all social stuff. This that you're talking about is cool and intriguing.
