...but as Keith Olbermann says,
"The President of the United States owes this country an apology."
Pretty powerful stuff. Up to this point, Keith Olbermann was just a name to me; he now has earned some of my respect.
On a related note, this is the text of an email that I sent to Bush, my senators and my representative, prompted by PFAW (People For The American Way--the organization behind ElectionProtection, which I volunteered for in 2004), on the subject of Senate Bill 3861. The text (flaws and all) is entirely my own.

My country opposes repression, inhumane treatment of prisoners--regardless of the circumstances of their capture--indefinite detentions, and secret trials which allow evidence that the defendant cannot review.
My country is not a monarchy: it does not allow the President, or the executive branch generally, to dictate the laws, or to reserve the right to ignore existing laws or court decisions.
My country stands for freedom of expression, open debate, and the rule of law.
Passing S. 3861 would be a betrayal of my country's principles. Please vote NO on this bill.
