VOTE. Ask me why.
7 November 2006 09:24I don't normally ask for comments on my LJ. Today, I'm asking for them.
Talk to me about why it's important for you to vote--or why it's not.
Talk to me about the specific issues that are important to you.
Talk to me about what you hope the outcome will be--not just in terms of numbers, but what changes you hope that the results will entail.
Also, I will make this pledge: if anyone replies to this with a question something like "why do you think it's important to vote?" I'll try to give an original (and sincere) response each time I'm asked.
Above all else, though, get your ballot turned in. If you don't know how or where, ask me; I'll help you figure it out. You can _always_ (no matter what you are told) get a provisional ballot if all else fails--if you get crap about that, call me.

Date: 8 November 2006 02:18 (UTC)I voted because a lot of people have suffered and fought and died for my right to do it.
I voted because this country is sliding from timocracy towards fascism. Because we have gone from Republic to timocracy to theocratic fascism within my lifetime and that horrifies me.
Because people are dieing every day for a lie.
Beacuse I believe that everybody deserves a fair shake, a decent education, and equality under the law.
Because tthe things the flag stands for matter more to me thann empty coopted singles.
because I don't want us to look like Brazil in two generations.
Because I've seen the face of evil staring out at me from news broadcasts for the last six years.
Because I believe in tthe seperation of church and state and that the government doesn't belong in anyone's private life unless they are actually hurting someone.
Because infrastructure is worth more than Haliburtan profits.
