as a follow-on to my "musical pi" post, we now have, courtesy /., poetry whose lines are constrained to have a mathematically appropriate number of syllables.

The /. posts themselves on this subject are arguably more funny than the referenced articles.

via some random chain of LJers that probably involved [livejournal.com profile] zandperl, [livejournal.com profile] rosefox, and [livejournal.com profile] the_xtina, a couple of provocative essays on sexuality and relationships by [livejournal.com profile] divalion:

No More Mr. Nice Guy, or, as I like to call it, "Nice Guys vs. nice guys".

I have to admit that I have from time to time manifested some aspects of the Nice Guys she describes.

Bi Bi, Baby: the problem of bi girls, explored in a way which has relevance to more general issues of sexuality and relationships.

Both of these essays involve Anglo-Saxon monosyllables which are often thought to be crude if not profane, so they may be NSFW.

The 'tude and ability at writing, at least, reminds me somewhat of [livejournal.com profile] naudiz. (And, come to think of it, [livejournal.com profile] vito_excalibur. And [livejournal.com profile] red_frog, although the style is different. I think I'm seeing a pattern here. :) ) Definitely worth reading.

Compiled from a couple of news reports on Bush getting smacked with some actual unscripted audience questions, the following is one such by one Harry Taylor of Charlotte, NC:

You never stop talking about freedom, which I appreciate, but while I listen to you talk about freedom, I see you assert your right to tap my telephone, to arrest me and hold me without charges, to try to preclude me from breathing clean air and drinking clean water and eating safe food. If I were a woman, you'd like to restrict my opportunity to make a choice... about whether I can abort a pregnancy... What I wanted to say to you is that--in my lifetime, I have never felt more ashamed of, nor more frightened, by my leadership in Washington, including the presidency. And I would hope from time to time that you have the humility and the grace to be ashamed of youself... I also want to say I really appreciate the courtesy of allowing me to speak... That is part of what this country is about.

*applause* This is hard-hitting, but at the same time well-stated, and said in a sufficiently courteous fashion as to make its casual dismissal difficult. Bravo, Mr. Taylor!

The ever-witty [livejournal.com profile] vito_excalibur recently has been amusing herself and her readers with ramifications of the suggestion that popular culture is funnier if you replace all instances of "angel" with "zombie":

Buffy is even better when Buffy spent two years mooning over an older boyfriend named Zombie. I still like that 80s one-hit wonder, "Send Me A Zombie." And who wouldn't love that heartwarming TV show, Touched By A Zombie?

The comments are a riot (including my own contribution near the end, he said without the slightest trace of modesty). However, I will predict that if your brain works like mine (in which case you have my condolences) you may never think of the oeuvre of Annie Lennox the same way again if you read them.
