Clocky is a clock for people who have trouble getting out of bed. When the snooze bar is pressed, Clocky rolls off the table and finds a hiding spot, a new one every day.

. . .

I don't like being told when to wake up but I've come to terms with the idea that I have to. In designing Clocky, I was in part inspired by kittens I've had that would bite my toes every morning. Clocky is less of an annoying device as it is a troublesome pet that you love anyway.

This is brilliant, and also pretty damned funny. I especially like the suggestion that Clockies may, in a future version, conspire with one another to handle especially recalcitrant sleepers.

Yup. I have an acquaintance that worked there, who gave me a tour a few years back; I seriously thought about asking them for a job/PhD slot. While I think that it wouldn't have been a particularly good fit for me in some ways, it would certainly be a fun place to work.

That's wonderful. :) My problem with it, though, is that I don't use the snooze button — I just turn the alarm clock off, and sometimes I then fall back to sleep without realizing it.

I have the same problem, although it's more common for me to keep "snooze"-ing.

Never heard back from you regarding plans for while you're down here. You have any for this weekend?

Oops, that was because I forgot to write back and say:

I don't really have the time to come down to Irvine, and it seems a bit heartless to drag you all the way up to LA when I wouldn't have more than a little while to spend with you guys. Which sucks, 'cause I'd really like to see you, but this week just ended up being Really Hectic.

Oh, OK. Well, that does suck. If you make plans that are easily generalizable (i.e., to which a couple of extra people could be added, like going to a movie or performance or something), let me know; I can't guarantee that we'd be able to make it, but it would be cool if we could work it out. (We need to get out more often, too, so driving up to LA is seeming less of a barrier than it might otherwise. :P :) )
