I, Roommate: The Robot Housekeeper Arrives

Despite the title, the article is more about this robot as diminutive companion than as housekeeper. The experience described sounds more like Asimov's dreams of the early days of robotics than anything else I've seen so far. Between the lines, you'll also see some interesting reflections on the extent to which humans really really like to anthropomorphize given the slightest excuse.

I anthropomorphize software architecture. I think everyone here thinks I'm weird.

Which reminds me: call me so I can get your number back into my phone. (New phone.) I need to tell you about the new project. :)

If you're the only one there that does so, I'll be beyond surprised and straight into flat-out stunned. Anthropomorphization of software (and other complex devices) is, IMO, a useful method of analysis (and also allows for the occasional cathartic "WTF were you *thinking*?" moment. :>

My number is on my web page's "contact information" page (linked near the top of the front page). We should chat for other reasons as well, soon. (And not just your birthday, either. :) )

I'm the only one that I see doing it. I have reduced people to shocked laughing as I refer to a machine calling a person attempting to logon a "dumbass". But I simplify the complex so I can understand it--it's my stock in trade, as you know. If I can't make analogies, I don't get it.

Then again, it might be my waving my arms about as I talk about storing structures in the central directory DB that's disturbing them. :D

I notice your transparent attempt to avoid calling me. ;) But I will call. Going to VA this weekend, BTW.

Have you ever seen someone get the wrong password on the MacOS X logon screen? If you get it wrong, it "shakes its head". Seriously. :)

I'm not attempting to avoid calling you, just attempting to subtly encourage people to get my contact info off my website. :> When's a good time to call?
