Fun with Wikipedia:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_faux_pas

(Anyone care to estimate the probability that at least one of these items was made up by someone just to see if anyone else would notice? And no, I haven't put one in myself--thus far I've managed to resist the siren call of editing Wikipedia.)

I was looking at the ones for the UK and the US, and most of them are pretty much "well duh." But this one, in the UK list, made me go "huh?"

"In the United States it is common to vocally thank the host after a meal, often stopping to propose a toast. In Britain a small gift for the host given upon entering such as flowers for the table or wine or chocolates for the meal combined with more subdued thanks is more common."

Not because that's not true with regards to the British, but because I don't think it's actually any different in the States, and I can't imagine proposing a toast to someone just because they cooked me dinner, unless it's a really big event.

(You notice how good I've been not to say "England" in this entire comment...)
